Alfred Hospital Nurses League

The Alfred Hospital Nurses League Inc. is a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing nurses with the opportunity to socialise and exchange ideas and preserve the history of nursing at the Alfred Hospital. Our operations are entirely sustained by our volunteers. The Nursing History Collection began in 1990 as the Nursing Archive, when League members realised the Alfred Hospital School of Nursing would close in 1992 after 112 years. Managed by the Alfred Hospital Nurses League, members volunteer to catalogue and manage the collection to ensure that nursing heritage is valued and communicated through the documenting, preservation and conservation of the collection. The NHC acquires and preserves material that relates to and provides insights into nurses and nursing, focussed mainly on the Alfred Hospital and other Alfred Health campuses.
