Community Health Onkaparinga

Community Health Onkaparinga (CHO) promotes health and wellbeing in the city of Onkapringa and encourages residents to live healthy, active, connected and creative lifestyles. We are delivering a community project called Eat Well Waste Less Be Connected. This initiative aligns with CHO’s purpose of strengthening community health and wellbeing in the outer southern region of Adelaide. It responds to increasing food insecurity, rising living costs, and the social isolation that many individuals and families experience. At the same time, large volumes of nutritious food are wasted, and stigma continues to surround the use of rescued food. Our project delivers a community-led food security program that transforms rescued food into freshly prepared, healthy meals within an inclusive and welcoming environment. Using a range of strategies for meal preparation, community members will build social connections, increase confidence in preparing nutritious food, and access meals with dignity and autonomy.
