Noosa Council

Noosa Shire Council is the local government authority for the Noosa region, located at the northern tip of Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. Covering approximately 872 square kilometres, the Shire is home to over 59,000 residents and is renowned for its commitment to environmental sustainability, community wellbeing, and responsible development. Recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, Noosa boasts a unique blend of coastal, rural, and hinterland environments, with 35% of its land protected as national parks, reserves, or conservation areas. The Council was re-established in 2014 following a successful community-led de-amalgamation campaign, reflecting strong local identity and civic engagement. Noosa Shire has a diverse economy with strengths in tourism, agriculture, creative industries, and professional services. The region includes vibrant townships such as Noosa Heads, Tewantin, Cooroy, and Pomona, and is deeply connected to the heritage of the Kabi Kabi/Gubbi Gubbi people, the Traditional Custodians of the land. Noosa Council actively supports community development, disaster resilience, and volunteer engagement, making it a proud partner of Volunteering Queensland in delivering training, emergency response coordination, and capacity-building initiatives.
