The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) aims to enrich the quality of life of aged care residents who are socially isolated or lonely. The community visitor needs to commit to at least once fortnightly visits for an hour. Key skills which are highly desirable are a genuine empathy and understanding of older people, good communication and listening skills, commitment and flexibility and the ability to work alone.
Key tasks are to provide companionship and friendship and respect the rights of residents including confidentiality, privacy and dignity. Training and support is provided.
