As a LinC volunteer, you will make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. You will be matched with a LinC participant based on location, interests and times you’re both available. You will usually meetup with the participant for around one to two hours weekly or fortnightly over the six month period. Once you are matched with a participant, you will have the opportunity to support them in engaging in activities that will build connections within their community in ways that are accessible and meaningful to them.

Volunteers will assist participants in the areas of social connection, inclusion and engagement. Volunteers will support participants to link in with a range of social and community networks. The role of the volunteers will be to facilitate the development of social connections and encourage the support of other community members to be inclusive. It is through developing these social connections participants can independently be active in community life.

What we are looking for in a volunteer: A friendly manner with a genuine interest in others. Compassion, empathy, and strong active listening skills. Willingness to commit to a regular volunteer schedule. Respect for confidentiality and ethical standards. A commitment to practicing self-care and recognising personal limits.

We’re passionate about our work, which is enjoyable, challenging and rewarding. All of our teams work to ensure everyone can imagine and achieve their hopes and potential. We know that people are unique and the experts on their life and are not defined by impairments, diagnosis or labels. We aim to specifically promote safety and inclusivity for LGBTIQ+ and First Nations communities.

LinC volunteers complete training and receive ongoing supervision sessions and support from staff and supervisors.
