The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Boroondara Stroke Support Group.

Do you have a knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating? Help us improve the lives of people affected by stroke in the community. We are looking for a cooking instructor to run cooking sessions at our Hub. Sessions will most likely be run once a fortnight on a Monday afternoon.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • With the support of the Stroke Hub coordinator and other volunteers, the cooking instructor will run cooking sessions at the Hub
  • Cooking sessions are aimed at teaching cooking skills to stroke survivors who would like to continue to cook for themselves at home.
  • Key goals will be around healthy cooking, potentially cooking for one, cooking with specialised equipment for those with one-sided weakness, cooking in bulk, simple and easy meals
  • Tasks include planning, shopping for groceries, collecting attendance, motivating stroke survivors to take their new learnt skills at home, following up with participants and reporting to the Hub coordinator

Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating
  • Having a creative mind to find ways around cooking with a disability
  • Motivating personality
  • Good communication skills
  • High levels of hygiene, especially in food preparation and handling
  • Team work skills
  • A healthcare background is desirable
