The volunteer will support the Parents/Carers in the Parent and Carer Resource Centre (PCRC), they will need to welcome them into the room, help them with any requests, offer and make them refreshments, maintain the PCRC and kept it clean and tidy . The Parent and Carer Resource Centre at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead provides a calm and non-medical place for parents to have some time to relax during hospital visits. Parents and carers can access the internet, read the paper or chat with one of our volunteers who look after the room. Volunteers can also help guide parents to relevant resources and information they may need.
Volunteers need to have excellent communication skills, an open and friendly attitude and have a compassionate and caring nature.
To help keep everyone protected during Covid we have numerous protocols in place, every time you come into the hospital you will need to register with a QR, have your temperature checked and check that you haven’t been to any of the new hotspots which are listed at the entry. If you have any symptoms at all you aren’t able to attend. You will be given masks to wear while onsite and there is hand sanitiser to use also.
