Get behind the scenes with St John Tasmania
Tasmania is home to some incredible events, festivals and community activities, and St John Tasmania volunteers are right at the centre of the action.
As an Event Health Services volunteer, you'll get behind the scenes at events across the state while building practical skills, meeting new people and making a real difference.
From school fairs, concerts and community events to marathons, multi-day festivals, motocross, mountain biking and motorsport, St John Tasmania volunteers are there providing first aid and health support when it's needed.
For someone experiencing an injury or medical emergency, you can make the difference between pain and relief, fear and reassurance, worry and confidence.
What you'll do
Depending on your training and experience, you may:
- Provide first aid and care to people who become injured or unwell
- Assess and monitor patients and assist with their ongoing care
- Work at first aid posts or as part of mobile response teams
- Respond to incidents alongside experienced St John volunteers
- Work alongside other health and emergency services when required
- Help create a safe and reassuring environment for patients and eventgoers
- Take part in regular training to build and maintain your skills
Training and development
You don't need to come to St John with clinical experience. We'll provide the training and support you need to get started.
From day one, you'll have opportunities to attend events alongside experienced volunteers, learning through hands-on experience as your skills and training develop.
You'll also have opportunities to gain qualifications and undertake regular training and reaccreditation to keep your skills current.
How much time do I need to give?
Volunteering can fit around your other commitments. How much time you give is largely up to you, with opportunities to volunteer at events throughout the year.
Regular training helps you maintain your skills, build confidence and stay ready to help.
Why volunteer with St John?
People join St John for all sorts of reasons. You might want practical experience, be considering a career in health or emergency services, want to meet new people, or simply want to give something back to your community.
Whatever your background, motivation or goals, we'll support you to develop your skills, become part of the team and be there when someone needs help.
