Greeter at Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre
Environment Centres nurture communities that CARE by delivering a customer experience that builds connection to the environment and drives behaviour change. Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre is seeking outgoing volunteers to Greeters and to create a welcoming, inclusive experience for visitors, pointing out the unique features of the facility and the displays while acting as a conduit for environmental and centre information. As a Volunteer at Boondall Wetlands you'll be proactively engaging with visitors, delivering easy ad hoc activities, and supporting the day to day running of the Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre
Goals and duties
- Make all visitors to Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre feel comfortable and included
- Deliver tours of Boondall Wetlands Environment Centre
- To provide visitors with basic information about what they can see and do at the site and where facilities are located.
- Inspire members of the community to take positive action towards protecting Brisbane City Councils nature reserves.
- Promote upcoming events, activities and facilitate in participation of activities
- Keeping the centre and facilities tidy and well stocked
- Contribute to or compile volunteer program communications
- Attend Volunteer meetings and training days
- Run walkway activities such as the interactive touch table
- Update Environmental Education displays
- Help to maintain the useful plants track
- Support environment centre activities and events
- Develop your skills and knowledge into delivering guided walks (Depending on your confidence, experience and goals)
Time Required
Seeking people who can reliably attend a 3-4 hour shift rostered on a reoccurring fortnightly basis and can commit to this for the next 6 months.
- Tuesday mornings fortnightly 9am-12:30pm
- Wednesday mornings weekly/fortnightly 9am-12:30pm
- Friday Mornings fortnightly 9am-12:30pm
- Saturday mornings weekly/fortnightly 9am-12:30pm
Skills and requirements
- Reliable
- Enjoys starting conversations and meeting new people
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills
- Enjoy learning and sharing knowledge
- Shows initiative and looks for opportunities to engage with visitors
- Comfortable talking in front of small groups of people (to deliver small centre tours)
- Minimum 18 years of age
- Volunteer BlueCard will be required. Easily apply through Blue Card and then email the reference number to be connected to BCC.
