How you can help in this role?

  • Build rapport by spending time with the residents - in the beginning a few times a week to get to know them, and for them to get to know you.

  • Confidently be a voice for the residents with relatives at their bi-monthly meetings and with managers and team members.

  • Learn to communicate with residents with more than words, listening empathetically and with understanding.

Impact on clients:

By volunteering in this role you will be assisting residents to live their best life, enhance their experience living in the Nursing Home and bring social connection and friendly support to their lives. You will also be helping Grampians Health to be the best they can be.

Further information:

The volunteer in this role will need to be passionate about improving the lives of residents and be gentle and encouraging with residents to enable them to open up to you. You will need to have an understanding of diversity and have the ability to read when people need assistance.
