There are 6 Services that Volunteers can choose from:

Patient Services

In the area of Patient Services, volunteers provide companionship and practical assistance to patients. This includes greeting and visiting patients on the wards, helping with light personal laundry, banking, and shopping, distributing magazines, and caring for patient flowers. Volunteers also offer support to patients and families during palliative care.

Information and Support Service

The Information and Support Services team do fundraising by running a monthly book stall selling second handbooks, and a yearly Christmas Pop Up Shop selling handmade gifts and other items. They also assist with clerical duties for the Friends Secretary and Service Leader. They manage public relations tasks such as preparing and distributing the monthly newsletter, delivering magazines to clinics and waiting areas, and restocking Carers WA pamphlets.

Museum Services

Museum Services volunteers are responsible for preserving the hospital’s history. Their work includes researching, cataloguing, and conserving historical items, photographs, and archives, as well as conducting guided tours of the RPH Museum.

Outpatient Services

In Outpatient Services, volunteers provide comfort and assistance in areas such as the Breast Assessment Unit, ICU Reception, Goderich Street Reception, and Cardiology. Their support includes offering refreshments and blankets, escorting visitors, delivering biopsies and blood samples, and providing administrative help. Volunteers also assist with the P.A.R.T.Y. Program by setting up for sessions, guiding school tours, and supporting students and staff during clinical visits.

General Services

General Services volunteers contribute in various ways, including supporting patients in the Transit Lounge by offering refreshments and collecting prescriptions for those being discharged. They also serve as concierges at the Victoria Square entrance and Emergency Department, where they greet and escort patients and visitors, offering comfort and assistance as needed.

Shop and Trolley Service

The Shop and Trolley Service team operates the Friends Shop at the Victoria Square entrance, which offers snacks and beverages, gifts, and flowers, along with a ward trolley service. The Friends volunteers also operate the Kiosk at the Goderich Street Outpatient Clinics, which also provides snacks and beverages for patients and visitors.
