Volunteer Youth Mentor - Applecross Senior High School
Advertised by Volunteer Melville!As a Raise Youth Mentor, you’ll support a young person by being a consistent, positive role model during weekly mentoring sessions, delivered in person at Applecross Senior HS. You’ll create a safe, non-judgemental space where your mentee feels heard, valued, and supported. To participate, all mentors must complete Raise’s compulsory Mentor Training Program and Youth Safety Checks.
Skills, Experience and Additional Requirements
A genuine interest in supporting young people. Friendly, respectful, and warm interpersonal style. Good communication skills and a willingness to keep learning. Active listening skills – the ability to truly listen without judgment, interrupting, or offering solutions too quickly. Empathy and emotional intelligence – awareness of others’ emotions and the ability to respond with care and understanding. Good technical proficiency – confident using email, online platforms, and completing documentation electronically. Commitment to personal growth – openness to feedback and a willingness to reflect on your own mentoring approach. Cultural sensitivity and awareness – understanding and respecting diverse backgrounds and lived experiences.
