Caring for our Coast - Friends of North Ocean Reef-Iluka Foreshore (FONORIF)

Friends of North Ocean Reef-Iluka Foreshore (FONORIF) looks after approximately 30ha of coastal foreshore reserve between Burns Beach and Ocean Reef. This is a high-profile section of foreshore, viewed by thousands each week from the shared path.
FONORIF aims to restore the environment back to excellent condition, through weeding, planting, and litter collection. We have progressed well towards our goals with native animals and birds returning to the area.
During summer we conduct surveys for the threatened species - Graceful Sun Moth and conduct guided walks for the public during Spring.
Volunteers are equipped (gloves, hi-vis vests, tools) and trained to do the work and learn a lot about the coastal environment as they participate.
Knowledge in related fields of conservation, horticulture, botany, zoology and marine science is helpful but not essential. For those studying allied fields, the practical experience is valuable – everyone is welcome to join us.
How to get involved – • On the job training and learning – NO experience necessary. • Your decision on how often you wish to attend.
The group meets 4 times a month at the Iluka Foreshore Car Park -
- the first and third Saturday of the month
- the second and fourth Thursday of the month
- 2 hours work per session followed by morning tea
- April till October 9.00am-11.00am and November till March 8.00am-10.00am
- No application or fees to join FONORIF

- Children under 12 years old are welcome, however must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
