Community garden gardener

The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Alamein Neighbourhood and Learning Centre.

We are looking for someone to be responsible for garden maintenance at our centre.

The tasks for this role:

• Keep the common area of the garden and around the centre clean by:

  • Weeding
  • Sweeping vegetation off the paths
  • Cutting small branches if in the way of walking on paths.
  • Mowing (Optional)

• Help with Alamein's common plots by:

  • Weeding
  • Planting (if needed)
  • Watering (if needed).

• Notify staff of any issues in the garden that need to be addressed.

• Investigate seed collecting and storage at Alamein in conjunction with another volunteer.

• If available, support with events held in the garden where needed.

• Follow all Work, Health & Safety practices related to the role.

Equipment is provided to complete these tasks.

Skills and attributes:

• Ability to understand all Work, Health & Safety practices related to the role.
• Punctual
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
• Ability to keep the garden area clean and tidy.
• Ability to weed.
• Ability to mow (not essential)
• Ability to plant plants.
• Basic gardening skills and knowledge on how to perform the tasks
• Show initiative and contribute to the gardening community in a way that will enhance the space for everyone who uses it

You will be required to dress appropriately for the job and weather conditions, i.e. protective eyewear, footwear, hat, sunscreen
