Vinnies Community Inclusion Program (CIP) is designed to provide wrap-around support for people experiencing disadvantage. CIP operates out of Oaks Estate, Canberra and supports residents in the local community.

By becoming a Vinnies Community Inclusion Program volunteer, you’ll help create a welcoming environment where companions feel supported, included, and connected.

This role encourages community involvement by fostering a sense of belonging and supporting companions to engage with others in a safe and comfortable way. Your time will include collecting rescued food from donors, bringing it back to Oaks Estate, and helping unload and prepare it for sharing. You’ll also assist with the distribution of food and resources at Oaks Estate, provide friendly and reliable transport for companions into the Queanbeyan Town Centre, and contribute to the general care and upkeep of our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the team by collecting rescued food from donors, bringing it back to Oaks Estate, unloading it, and helping set it out and distribute it to companions in a friendly and respectful way. • Provide safe, supportive transport for companions into the Queanbeyan Town Centre to help them stay connected and involved. • Help with the routine cleaning and upkeep of our bus and Prius program to keep everything running well.

Selection Criteria:

Skills and Knowledge

• A high level of customer service skills and an alignment with and empathy for people from all community sectors • Communication skills - written and verbal with a wide range of stakeholders

Personal Attributes

• High ethical standard, is trustworthy and confidential, works well individually and within a team • Consideration and respect for others and their views and adapts to changing environments • Enthusiastic, projects a positive image with good attention to detail, efficiency, and effectiveness. • Be available and flexible with driving Monday to Friday

Work Health and Safety Requirements

• Covered shoes to be worn at all times whilst onsite • Manual handling of up to fifteen (15) kilograms with lifting, bending, reaching up and down • Ladder and trolley usage (pushing and pulling movements) • When driving a Society vehicle, a valid drivers license must be held, and a copy provided • Personal protective equipment as required is provided and is to be used as instructed • WWVP Card, and a copy provided • First Aid skills and experience including current First Aid Certificate preferred • Trauma informed training preferred though not essential
