Social Support Volunteers - Residential Aged Care

VMCH is currently welcoming volunteers to spend meaningful time with residents through personalised activities tailored to their individual interests, hobbies, and cultural backgrounds. As a volunteer, you will provide companionship, engage in conversation, and assist with organised activities, creating positive experiences that can brighten a resident's day and enhance their wellbeing.

At VMCH, our services are as diverse as the people we support. As a purpose-driven organisation, compassion, respect, and inclusion are at the heart of everything we do. While we have been serving communities for over 100 years, we continue to grow and innovate, helping people and families live their best lives by providing places to call home and environments where they can learn, connect, and thrive.

How Social Support Volunteers Can Engage with Residents

Volunteers can make a meaningful difference by:

  • Visiting residents in person and providing companionship.
  • Being matched with residents who shares similar interests and hobbies.
  • Enjoying friendly conversations and reminiscing about life experiences and cherished memories.
  • Taking a stroll through the gardens together.
  • Meeting in the library for a game of cards, completing puzzles or participating in other leisure activities.
  • Supporting residents to participate in organised facility activities and events.

What We're Looking For

VMCH volunteers are people who:

  • Have strong verbal communication skills and enjoy connecting with others.
  • Are compassionate, patient, and respectful.
  • Can commit to regular visits and keep us informed of their availability
  • Want to create meaningful connections and special memories for both themselves and the residents they support.

Before You Start

To ensure a positive experience for everyone involved, volunteers should be:

  • Willing to work as part of a supportive team environment.

  • Able to commit to a minimum regular volunteering period of two hours.

  • Happy to commit to ongoing volunteering to foster trust, companionship and connection.

Why Volunteer?

Even a small amount of your time can provide valuable companionship and social connection, making a significant difference in someone's life. Whether you are a student, retiree, working professional, or someone looking to gain experience in the aged care sector, volunteering with VMCH is an opportunity to give back, build relationships, and create lasting memories.

If you have a few hours to spare and would like to make a positive impact in your community, we would love to hear from you.
