How you can help in this role?

Guide and orientate the public through the immediate surrounding environment.

Contribute to waiting room and patient comfort and provide practical support.

Assist patients in ED treatment bays.

Escort family/ friend/ visitors to allocated patient.

Provide clothing to patients on discharge and assist with organising volunteer drivers to transport patients home when required.
Impact on clients:
By volunteering in this role you will be helping to ease emotional distress and anxiety experienced by patients and/or their loved ones; enabling the ED team to be able to better focus on providing clinical care, thus improving outcomes for patients; enhancing the patient and carer experience.
Further information:
A volunteer in this role needs to have a high level of maturity and confidence; a strong interest in helping people in need; good communications skills; and understand the importance of following specific instructions from the attending ED Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) or ED Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) at all times.
