How you can help in this role?

  • Guide and orientate the public through the immediate surrounding environment.

  • Contribute to waiting room and patient comfort and provide practical support.

  • Assist patients in ED treatment bays.

  • Escort family/ friend/ visitors to allocated patient.

  • Provide clothing to patients on discharge and assist with organising volunteer drivers to transport patients home when required.

Impact on clients:

By volunteering in this role you will be helping to ease emotional distress and anxiety experienced by patients and/or their loved ones; enabling the ED team to be able to better focus on providing clinical care, thus improving outcomes for patients; enhancing the patient and carer experience.

Further information:

A volunteer in this role needs to have a high level of maturity and confidence; a strong interest in helping people in need; good communications skills; and understand the importance of following specific instructions from the attending ED Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) or ED Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) at all times.
