Organisation Description:

Soup Van is a program of the St Vincent de Paul Society Victoria.

The primary aim of the Soup Van Program is to offer food, social connection, and referral pathways out of homelessness and poverty, to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness or facing disadvantage.

Position Description: Preparing and packing food, assisting with loading the Soup Vans, distributing food on a ‘Soup Van Run’, driving the Vinnies van and assisting in cleaning up the kitchen and soup van vehicles in a team.

Volunteer opportunities are available across two Soup Van service areas:

  • Western Soup Van (Maribyrnong and Brimbank areas) - Monday to Friday shifts available
  • Melton Soup Van - Tuesday and Friday shifts available

Available shifts and tasks:

  • Pre-shift (afternoon to late afternoon): Help prepare and pack food, including sandwiches, soup and hot meals, and stock the vans with essential items
  • Run shift (evening): Support food distribution at designated locations, offer a friendly and respectful presence, and assist with pack down and clean-up

Time commitment: One shift per week or more if available

Other requirements:

  • Please note: All Staff and Volunteers are required to complete a Police Check and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Volunteers must complete their Soup Van Volunteer Registration Form to be considered for Volunteering opportunities.
  • All Volunteers are required to satisfactorily complete Food Safety training and obtain a statement of attainment for the Food Safety Certificate prior to commencing employment.

  • Once you submit an expression of interest, you will be asked to complete the Soup Van Volunteer Registration Form to be added to their system.
  • After submitting the form, you will receive an email from the St Vincent de Paul Volunteer Engagement team outlining the next steps.
