Our volunteers are involved in looking after the goods we hand to those in crisis. When you volunteer with us, you are making a meaningful contribution to your community and to families in the Midwest area.

As an Emergency Relief Pantry Volunteer you will be involved in doing a range of tasks:

PANTRY & DONATION SORTING

  • Sorting donations and purchased items (e.g., dry goods, cans, toiletries).
  • Checking dates and product condition.
  • Stocking pantry shelves (rotate, label, and place items correctly).
  • Keeping pantry and storage areas clean and organised.

BREAD & BAKERY COLLECTION + PACKING

  • Collect bread and bakery items from partner bakeries.
  • Transport items safely and return promptly.
  • Pack and store bakery items for distribution.
  • Follow food safety and manual handling guidelines.

There could be no relief provided if not for this important job.

Time Commitment: Ad hoc (1–4 times per month), 1–3 hours per shift on Thursdays

Skills and Attributes:

  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible with availability.
  • Good attention to detail (sorting, dates, labelling).
  • Able to work independently and in a team.
  • Respectful, friendly, and aligned with Centacare’s values.
  • Physically able to lift light–moderate loads and stand for periods.

Requirements

  • Valid National Police Clearance (Check Covered by Centacare)
  • WA Driver’s Licence
  • Motor vehicle insurance
  • Current Food Safety certificate (free online option available)
  • Minimum age: 18+
