☕ A Cup of Tea Tastes Better With Company. Could You Visit a Lonely Aged Care Resident in Carseldine?

You can make a difference.

Many older Australians living in aged care homes are socially isolated from the community. Some have no family or friends who visit them at all. QCCN is looking for people with big hearts to visit residents in a care home in Carseldine and help reconnect them with their local community. It only takes one hour a fortnight, and all you have to do is be a friend.

As a Volunteer Visitor, you will be matched one-on-one with a resident who has been identified as socially isolated, or at risk of becoming so. Your visits may include sharing a coffee and a chat, playing a board game, listening to music, reminiscing, or spending time together. Through regular visits, you can help create a meaningful friendship for someone who truly needs connection.

There are several male and female residents in this Carseldine care home who are looking for a new friend. Residents are of different ages and backgrounds, but they all have one thing in common. They would benefit from someone kind, reliable, and friendly taking the time to visit. Volunteer Visitors enrich the lives of older people in care and help bring them a sense of connection to their local community.

Sadly, many people living in aged care experience loneliness and social isolation. Studies have shown that loneliness can have a serious impact on health, and many aged care residents do not have regular visitors.

You can make a difference by visiting your new friend once a fortnight. All you have to do is be a mate.

What does the role involve? You will visit your matched resident once a fortnight for around one hour. Visits may include: • Sharing a coffee and a chat. • Playing a board game or cards. • Sitting outside together. • Listening to music. • Sharing stories and memories. • Simply spending time together. There is no set agenda. The goal is friendship, companionship, and connection.

When are visits available? Visits for this care home take place on weekdays or weekends between 9AM - 4:30PM We will work with you and the care home to find a suitable visiting time.

Volunteer requirements To volunteer for this role, you will need to: • Be aged over 18 years. • Commit to visiting your new friend once a fortnight for the next 12 months. • Complete a National Criminal History Check. QCCN will organise and pay for this. • Provide evidence of a 2026 flu vaccination. We understand that holidays, study, work, illness, and life commitments come up. That is completely okay. The regularity of your visits helps your resident feel connected and helps the friendship grow over time.

Important information This volunteer role is not suitable for people looking to gain clinical experience, aged care work experience, job placement hours, or practical placement hours for study. The role is focused on friendship and companionship. It does not involve direct clinical care and does not qualify as work or practical experience.

What support will I receive? QCCN will support you throughout the process. This care home also has wonderful supportive staff who will help make your volunteer journey a successful and enjoyable experience. You will receive guidance, support, and regular check-ins so you feel confident in your role.
