Could You Visit a Lonely Aged Care Resident in Bray Park?

A cup of tea. A friendly conversation. A familiar face to look forward to. For many people living in aged care, these simple things can make a world of difference. We're looking for caring Volunteer Visitors to build meaningful friendships with socially isolated older people living in an aged care home in Bray Park. Many residents have limited family contact, have lost friends over the years, or simply don't have someone to share regular conversation with. Your visit could become the highlight of their fortnight.

What does a Volunteer Visitor do? There is no set agenda. Visits are all about companionship and connection. You might: • Share a coffee and a chat. • Play cards, board games, or puzzles. • Read together. • Sit outside and enjoy the fresh air. • Look through old photos and reminisce. • Listen to music. • Share stories, laughter, and friendship. Sometimes the most meaningful thing you can do is simply be there and listen.

Why volunteer? • Just one hour every fortnight can make a lasting impact. • Help reduce loneliness and social isolation. • Build a genuine friendship with someone in your local community. • Give back in a simple but meaningful way. Many of our volunteers tell us they get just as much out of the visits as the person they are visiting.

Who are we looking for? We're looking for people who are: • Friendly and reliable. • Patient and compassionate. • Comfortable talking with older people. • Interested in building a long-term friendship.

You don't need any previous volunteering or aged care experience. If you can hold a conversation, listen with kindness, and commit to regular visits, we'd love to hear from you. Volunteer requirements To volunteer for this role, you will need to: • Be aged over 18 years. • Commit to visiting your new friend once a fortnight for the next 12 months. • Complete a National Criminal History Check. QCCN will organise and pay for this. • Provide evidence of a 2026 flu vaccination.

We understand that holidays, study, work, illness, and life commitments come up. That is completely okay. The regularity of your visits helps your resident feel connected and helps the friendship grow over time.

Important information This volunteer role is not suitable for people looking to gain clinical experience, aged care work experience, job placement hours, or practical placement hours for study. The role is focused on friendship and companionship. It does not involve direct clinical care and does not qualify as work or practical experience.

What support will I receive? • Full training and orientation. • Ongoing support from the QCCN team. • Monthly check-ins. • Assistance with the onboarding process and aged care requirements. We are here to support you every step of the way.

When can I visit? Flexible visiting times are available, including: • Weekday mornings. • Weekday afternoons. • Weekends. We'll work with you and the aged care home to find a time that suits everyone.

Why join QCCN? Queensland Community Care Network is a small not-for-profit organisation with a big mission: reducing loneliness and social isolation among older Australians. Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, we connect volunteers with older people who would benefit from friendship, connection, and regular social interaction. Every friendship starts with a simple hello.

Important information Location: Bray Park. Commitment: Approximately one hour every fortnight. A current flu vaccination. If you have an hour to spare each fortnight and would like to make a genuine difference in someone's life, we'd love to hear from you. Because everyone deserves a friend.
