Volunteer Role: Hospital Visitor – Bring Mateship to Veterans in hospital
Do you enjoy meeting new people and sharing stories? Here's your chance to be a friendly face for veterans during their hospital stay — offering conversation, companionship, and support when it's needed most.
About the Role
Providing Mateship visits, you’ll spend time one-on-one with socially isolated veterans in Greenslopes Private Hospital. A simple chat, a small gesture, or just being there can make a huge difference in someone’s day. You’ll help veterans feel heard, valued, and less alone.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Visit patients and check in for a friendly conversation
- Deliver care items like books, magazines, puzzles, or comfort kits
- Provide an empathetic listening ear and take messages for support if needed
- Bring kindness, warmth, joy and an uplifting presence to their room
We’re Looking For Volunteers Who Are:
✅ Friendly, warm, and reliable ✅ Comfortable around elderly or unwell patients ✅ Compassionate and good at active listening ✅ Confident working independently after training
What You’ll Gain
🌟 Meaningful Impact – Brighten the day of someone who truly appreciates it 🌟 New Connections – Hear incredible stories from our veteran community 🌟 Personal Growth – Build confidence, communication skills, and life experience 🌟 Supportive Environment – Flexible shifts and full volunteer support 🌟 Perks – Free bistro lunch, volunteer parking, and shuttle access to the hospital
