Volunteer Role Description

VOLUNTEERS ARE RESPONSIBLE TO: Volunteer Coordinator

PURPOSE

Volunteers form part of the local office team. Volunteers provide support to Department for Child Protection (DCP) staff and children and young people currently under the Guardianship of the Chief Executive. Volunteer involvement can include transport, assisting at DCP events, assisting with DCP activities and life story book work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Driving a Government vehicle to transport children and young people
  • Installing age appropriate car seats (training provided).
  • Provide one-to-one support to children and young persons in creating memory pages/life story book work.
  • Provide support to DCP staff with events and activities.
  • Effectively communicate and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work as a team member to provide a volunteer service.
  • Accurately recording hours of volunteer work and tasks completed.
  • Work in accordance with the Task Allocation Form.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

  • Understand and follow workplace work, health and safety practices

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Current Full SA driver’s licence and a willingness to drive (for transport related tasks)
  • Working with Children Check, and updated every 5 years (Volunteer coordinator can support with application)
  • Relevant background screening
  • Reference check of at least two referees
  • Be over 18 years old

TRAINING ESSENTIAL

  • Volunteer induction workshop provided by Department for Child Protection
  • Through their eyes - Safe Environments training
  • Car seat installation training
  • Refresher training as required
