YRIPP volunteers attend police interviews with young people in police custody when a parent or guardian is not available.

When a young person is in police custody and a parent or guardian cannot attend, YRIPP volunteers step in. As an IP, you’ll help the young person understand their rights, provide calm support during police interviews, and help level the playing field at a critical moment. This role is not about providing legal advice – it’s about being a steady, impartial presence and helping ensure young people are treated fairly and with dignity. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect them with support services that may help divert them from further offending. What we’re looking for: ·        Strong communication and active listening skills ·        Reliability, empathy and the ability to remain calm under pressure ·        A commitment to reflective practice and maintaining impartiality ·        No prior legal knowledge is required – full training and ongoing support are provided Requirements: ·        Be at least 18 years old ·        Be able to commit to volunteering on a rostered basis ·        Be willing to complete the required training, a police check and a Working with Children Check Why volunteer? ·        Make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people ·        Build valuable skills and experience in youth justice and community support Join a diverse and supportive volunteer community
