As a Volunteer Grant Writer for Ozzie Tails of Hope, you will play a critical role in securing funding from grants to support our mission of rescuing and rehoming dogs in need. Your expertise in researching grant opportunities, writing compelling proposals, and building relationships with funders will help us raise the necessary funds to make our event a success and continue our lifesaving work.

Responsibilities:

Grant Research and Identification:

  • Conduct thorough research to identify potential grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, government agencies, and other sources that align with the mission and programs of Ozzie Tails of Hope.
  • Evaluate grant guidelines, eligibility criteria, and deadlines to determine the best fit for the organisation's funding needs.

Proposal Development:

  • Collaborate with the event planning team, program managers, and other stakeholders to gather information and data necessary for grant proposals.
  • Write clear, concise, and compelling grant proposals, narratives, and supporting documents that effectively communicate the organisation's mission, programs, impact, and funding needs.
  • Tailor grant proposals to meet the requirements and preferences of each funder while highlighting the unique aspects and accomplishments of Ozzie Tails of Hope.

Grant Submission and Follow-Up:

  • Prepare and submit grant applications, including all required attachments, budget narratives, and supporting materials, in accordance with funder guidelines and deadlines.
  • Maintain organised records of grant submissions, correspondence, and outcomes to track progress and follow up as needed.
  • Communicate with funders to provide additional information, answer questions, and address concerns related to grant proposals.

Relationship Building and Stewardship:

  • Cultivate relationships with grant-making organisations, program officers, and decision-makers to increase awareness of Ozzie Tails of Hope’s charity work and funding needs.
  • Engage in stewardship activities, such as thank-you letters, progress reports, and site visits, to demonstrate the impact of grant funding and foster ongoing support and collaboration.

Grant Reporting and Compliance:

  • Coordinate with program staff and finance team members to gather data and information necessary for grant reporting and compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate grant reports, including financial reports, narrative updates, and programmatic outcomes, as specified by grant agreements.

Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to animal welfare and Ozzie Tails of Hope’s mission.
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to craft persuasive and professional grant proposals and communications.
  • Research skills and attention to detail, with the ability to identify relevant grant opportunities and synthesise complex information.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit management, or related fields is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple deadlines, and collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with grant management software, online databases, and fundraising platforms is a plus.
