Volunteer Match (1:1 Support) - Extended Families

Living with a disability can be difficult – it can feel isolating, like life is going on around you, without you. Extended Families Australia exists to challenge that – we’re a group of people who believe that having joy in your life and being a part of your community is important for everyone. We support children and young adults 0-40 and their families to build friendships and create meaningful connections within the community.
Position description:
1:1 Match Volunteers work directly with children with a disability and their families in their homes and community by providing companionship and supervision and supporting the young person to feel confident and included.
Responsibilities encompass:
- Offering direct support to individuals with disabilities, both in home and community environments, with the goal of promoting their well-being, fostering social relationships, and enhancing community engagement to support people to reach their full potential.
- Ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in your care.
- Cultivating positive and friendly relationships with participants, their families, informal support networks, staff, and community organisations.
- Maintaining clear, responsive, and professional communication with all relevant parties involved in the support process.
Location: Extended Families has volunteering opportunities in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne.

Time required: Flexible - each individual volunteer negotiates with the participant & their family & the volunteer coordinator what works for you. It might be once a month for an hour or 2, once a week for an hour or 2, or fortnightly for an hour or 2.
Commitment required: 1 year minimum
Other requirements
- Working with children check (Volunteer level)
- NDIS screening check (Volunteer level)
- Completed the NDIS workers module
- Provide an International Police Check (where applicable at volunteer's expense)
- A Driver's License with your own car and 3rd party insurance is highly regarded.
