This volunteer opportunity will help to provide Pastoral Care to the people we serve by encompassing the rich traditions of compassionate care and being alongside people, that has been built on the example of Jesus for over 2000 years.

Pastoral Care centres on spiritual well-being, embracing healing, guidance, active listening, reconciliation, compassionate support, nurturing, and sustaining individuals within their faith-specific context. Volunteers extend Pastoral Care to elderly and frail aged residents, their families, and caregivers, including those facing dementia.

As a volunteer, you'll work under the guidance, training, and ongoing mentorship of a BlueCare Chaplain, contributing to a friendly, supportive, and professional Pastoral Care Team. Your role involves assisting individuals in discovering meaning, purpose, and connectedness through a faith-specific framework.

What you’ll be doing:

  • General visitation with residents to have meaningful conversations
  • Provide prayer when requested
  • Lead, support and attend Chapel Services ️- Facilitate small groups in prayer & bible study️
  • Lead spiritual care practices eg: relaxation, meditation, sacraments, rituals, and liturgies that are framed within a person's faith, heritage and faith community ️
  • The "Tales from the Heart" program

☑️ Skills and experience important for this role include:

  • Effective Communication Skills: Ability to communicate respectfully and courteously with individuals from diverse backgrounds and the frail aged.
  • Empathetic Engagement: Ability to empathize and provide support by utilizing active listening and reflective skills.

🎓 Training:
Willingness to complete training relevant to the role, including:

  1. CARE Essentials Course (6 weeks, one evening per week, online training) overseen by a BlueCare Chaplain.
  2. CARE Matters Course with mentoring from a BlueCare Chaplain.

This role is accessible for people using:

  • A wheelchair or mobility device
  • Accessible toilets
