Organisation description
MS Plus is funded to provide a volunteer visiting program - the Aged Care Volunteers Visitors Scheme. We are looking for caring volunteers to provide friendship for older people experiencing social isolation and loneliness.
Position description
MS Plus is seeking male and female volunteers to provide regular companionship visits to older people living in Aged Care or in their own home whose quality of life would be improved by social support and connection.
It’s suited to friendly, empathetic, and kind people who like to listen and chat, have a cuppa, work on a joint hobby, or go on a small outing to bring some joy into the elderly persons day.
Can speak a second language (not compulsory)
Location
Western Suburbs - Werribee, Point Cook, Altona, Williamstown, Sunshine, St Albans, Caroline Springs, Melton, Footscray, Kingsville, Yarraville, Essendon, Moonee Ponds, Avondale Heights and Kensington.
Skills required
- A genuine interest in building friendships and social connections in the older community.
- Maturity and reliability.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to demonstrate being a "good listener".
- Ability to be inclusive of people from all walks of life, cultures, background and beliefs.
- Able to work independently and maintain clear boundaries.
Time required: 1 hour weekly or fortnightly
Commitment required: Provide weekly or fortnightly visits over a 6 to 12-month period.
Role responsibilities
- Visit one on one with an older friend weekly or fortnightly.
- Comply with MS Plus ACVVS policies and guidelines as outlined during training.
- Record and submit monthly visit reports.
- Maintain regular communication with Program Coordinator.
Other requirements
- All applicants are required to undergo a Volunteer Recruitment process including an Interview, Police Check, Referee check and Online induction training (at no cost to the applicant).
- Covid and Flu vaccinations are preferred by not essential.
