Edmund Rice Centre WA is dedicated to empowering women from the refugee and migrant backgrounds through various programs and initiatives. Our Sewing Program is designed to provide women with valuable skills in sewing, fostering self-reliance, creativity, and economic opportunities. We are currently seeking a volunteer to help within our sewing program.
Position Overview: As a Sewing Program Volunteer, you will assist in teaching and supporting participants in sewing classes and workshops. You will play a crucial role in helping women gain confidence and proficiency in sewing, which can lead to improved economic independence and personal growth.
Key Responsibilities: - Help the sewing tutor provide instructions on sewing techniques and assist participants with their projects. - Support participants in developing sewing skills and sewing machine operation. - Provide one-on-one guidance and encouragement to participants, addressing their specific needs and challenges. - Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment, encouraging collaboration and mutual support among participants.
Qualifications: - Basic knowledge of various sewing techniques and sewing machine operation. - Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and varying skill levels, demonstrating patience, empathy and understanding. -Reliability and commitment to the program.
