'Spiritual Care Volunteer' in Aged Care, Geebung

Address: John Wesley Gardens Residential Aged Care Community - 19 Halsmere St, Geebung QLD 4034.
Spiritual Care requires openness, sensitivity, and the practice of listening. Becoming a Spiritual Care Volunteer with Wesley Mission Queensland involves being a listening presence for our residents. It may also involve support for reflection on and the expression of a person's beliefs, though this is not necessarily limited to religious reflection or any one faith group.
Spiritual Care Volunteers work alongside and are supported by the Pastoral and Spiritual Care Team of Wesley Mission Queensland. This is an ecumenical team committed to holistic care for understanding of each person's unique spirituality at the 'heart' of who we are, where the physical, emotional, intellectual, psycho-social, cultural and spiritual dimensions of self are all interconnected.
Pastoral and Spiritual Care Team members (often referred to as Chaplains) are also responsible for providing accessible opportunities for Christian worship, and Spiritual Care Volunteers may wish to become involved in these services.
The parish mission from which Wesley Mission Queensland is descended was founded by Albert Street Methodist Church in 1907. It now operates as a mission of the Uniting Church (Qld Synod), but the spiritual care offered within Wesley Mission Queensland is not limited to any one denominational or religious perspective. All are offered support to affirm meaning, value, hope and continuing purpose in their daily lives.
We are looking for caring, listening people who want to make a real difference in the lives of our community’s seniors. Spiritual Care Volunteers affirm the older person in their life journey, supporting them as they reflect on their life story, perhaps as they face loneliness, grief and loss, and find hope in potentially difficult circumstances that perhaps involve some loss of independence and increasing frailty.
Ongoing training modules developed by highly regarded Spiritual Care Education providers will be available for registered Spiritual Care Volunteers.
Spiritual Care Volunteers do not provide clinical or personal care to the people they visit.
