As a General Committee Member at Garden of Wellness Warwick Inc., your role is vital in supporting our mission to provide free mental health services through horticultural therapy. This voluntary position requires a commitment to uphold the values of the organization, contribute to decision-making, and assist with strategic planning.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Governance & Compliance:

    • Attend monthly committee meetings and any special meetings.
    • Contribute to discussions, offering insights and recommendations.
    • Ensure compliance with the organization’s constitution, policies, and relevant laws.
    • Assist in monitoring and reviewing the organization’s policies and procedures.
  2. Strategic Planning:

    • Participate in the development and review of the organization’s strategic plan.
    • Help set annual objectives and targets for growth and community impact.
    • Provide feedback and insights into ongoing projects and initiatives.
  3. Financial Oversight:

    • Assist with monitoring the organization’s financial position and sustainability.
    • Provide input into the approval of budgets, funding applications, and financial reports.
    • Help ensure that the organization’s financial decisions align with its goals and values.
  4. Fundraising & Grant Writing:

    • Contribute to fundraising ideas, strategies, and event planning.
    • Assist in identifying grant opportunities and collaborating on grant applications.
  5. Volunteer Support & Supervision:

    • Support the recruitment, training, and management of volunteers.
    • Provide guidance to volunteers, ensuring they understand and align with the organization’s mission.
    • Attend and assist in the organization of volunteer events and activities.
  6. Public Relations & Advocacy:

    • Represent Garden of Wellness Warwick Inc. at public events, community meetings, and stakeholder gatherings.
    • Actively promote the organization’s mission and services to raise community awareness.
    • Assist in building and maintaining relationships with community partners, sponsors, and donors.
  7. Project Support:

    • Participate in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of new projects, including the therapeutic garden setup.
    • Help with organizing workshops, events, and other community initiatives.
  8. Reporting & Accountability:

    • Report regularly on your assigned tasks or project areas.
    • Maintain confidentiality of all organizational matters.
    • Actively contribute to problem-solving and decision-making.
  9. Time Commitment:

    • Attend monthly committee meetings (approximately 2 hours per meeting).
    • Dedicate additional hours for committee tasks, workshops, and events as required (typically 3-5 hours per month).

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Interest in mental health, horticulture, or community development.
  • Previous experience in non-profit work, governance, or project management is an asset but not essential.
