Community Volunteer

Volunteering in Palliative Care is a very rewarding experience. Our volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to patients and their families during one of life's most vulnerable times. As part of the Community Palliative Care team, you will offer a calm presence, a listening ear, and meaningful connection.
This role allows you to build a trusting relationship without agenda. Giving people the space to simply be themselves. Whether through conversation, quiet company, or gentle activities, your time can make a profound difference.
The Community Volunteer Role involves (not limited to):
- Being matched with a client where possible close your own suburb.
- Giving the client time and safe place, which promotes open communication.
- Providing social support and companionship.
- Sitting with a client for a chat or reading a book/newspaper.
- Attend events/outing with a client.
- Assist in identifying matters that are important to them.
- Encourage clients to live as full of life as possible.
- Advocating for clients and help identify potential issues to a wider team.
What are we looking for in a volunteer:
- Someone who can spare 2 to 4 hours once a week or fortnight or month.
- Holds (or willing to obtain) a Working with Children Clearance.
- Empathy and understanding.
- Emotional maturity and respect for confidentiality.
- Acceptance of other values and beliefs.
- Friendly and outgoing personality
