Underneath My Umbrella offers creative drop in spaces to help women restore their value, find their voice and share their story.
Founder Julie Kelly draws from her personal journey towards freedom and initiated a support platform to assist women affected by domestic and family violence. Her extensive firsthand experience is crucial in understanding and aiding others. With a 15-year background in banking and finance, Julie shifted to teaching music at a primary school before pursuing a Bachelor of Theology. She later obtained her chaplain certification in 2019.
Julie has created a nurturing space for women, using creativity to explore themes of value, identity, and self-worth. She is currently focused on organizing a series of ongoing art projects and exhibitions that tell the stories of women's recovery through visual arts. These projects aim to offer support, encouragement, and awareness while shedding light on broader societal issues.
The program needs women who are confident in a particular creative art including (but not limited to) collage, mixed media, art, pottery, music, dance and are willing to share their skills with others. Plan and demonstrate a creative activity related to the theme of the space.
