Tutor Embrace Education (University Student)

We assist high school students with completing their homework and improving their literacy, numeracy, exam preparation and study skills. We assist students to develop life skills as well as academic skills. We encourage our tutors to see themselves as mentors, helping students to gain greater confidence in their studies.

The majority of the students that we support have refugee, recent migrant and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds.

A minimum of 2-3 hours per week for at least 6 months is required. It is important that tutors attend regularly in order to build relationships with students.

Individual Tutoring

It is up to you and your student to arrange a time to meet after school or on the weekend at the local public library. The minimum time required is 1-2 hours per week.

Homework Clubs

Generally, homework clubs run between 3:30 pm and 5 pm, once per week. This varies between clubs.

In-School Tutoring

Tutoring sessions are held during school hours (between 8:50 am and 3:30 pm). Each session is approximately 1-2 hours.

We seek passionate university students or graduates who are keen to support students from refugee, recent migrant and/or low socioeconomic backgrounds. In particular, we look for people who demonstrate: Good communication skills and English language skills The ability to competently tutor high school subjects Tolerance, respect and a willingness to learn from peoples of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds A commitment to remaining with Embrace Education for at least 6 months and to regular attendance Maturity, empathy, interpersonal skills, patience, professional conduct, and organisational skills Volunteer requirements As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety of our services, all volunteers must attend an interview, be in possession of a current (volunteer or employee) Working With Children Check and attend training before starting tutoring. We also require our tutors to abide by our Terms and Conditions of Engagement and to uphold the values of our organisation.
