A smile. A warm blanket. A friendly conversation. Sometimes it's the smallest acts of kindness that make the biggest difference and the assistance of administration duties will not go unnoticed by the ward staff and nursing unit.

Volunteering at Modbury Hospital is an opportunity to:

In the Day Procedure Unit - As a volunteer, you'll help patients feel comfortable before and after their procedures by:

  • Preparing and serving tea, coffee and sandwiches to post-operative patients.
  • Spending time chatting with pre-operative patients while they wait for treatment.
  • Offering warm blankets to patients when requested.
  • Assisting ward clerks by welcoming and directing patients and visitors.
  • Restocking PPE, IV trolleys and blanket cupboards.
  • Preparing patient information packs.
  • Helping maintain a safe, organised and welcoming environment.

In Ward 1 East You'll provide comfort and practical support by:

  • Preparing and serving refreshments to patients and their visitors.
  • Offering sandwiches to patients.
  • Spending time with patients who may not have visitors.
  • Assisting ward clerks to direct patients and families.
  • Restocking PPE supplies.
  • Supporting a safe and caring ward environment.

Our volunteers are an important part of the hospital team and follow strict safety and infection control practices. Volunteers:

  • Do not enter patient cubicles accompanied by security unless specifically requested and approved by nursing staff.
  • Do not enter rooms displaying infection control signage.
  • Must follow all hand hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.

We're looking for people who are:

  • Friendly, caring and compassionate.
  • Comfortable talking with people from all walks of life.
  • Good listeners with strong communication skills.
  • Reliable and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to follow directions from hospital staff.
  • Comfortable in a busy hospital environment.
  • Able to safely bend and lift light items (up to 6kg).
  • Willing to maintain professional presentation standards, including:
    • Bare below the elbows (no watches or jewellery except a plain wedding band).
    • Clean, short, unpolished natural nails (no acrylic nails).
