We are looking for Operational Support Volunteers to help keep our people, vehicles, equipment and services ready to go.

The Operational Support Volunteer supports the safe, organised and timely delivery of behind-the-scenes operational activities. This role assists with fleet movement, vehicle cleaning, event setup and pack down, kit restocking, order picking and packing, deliveries, HMS operations support and emergency management preparedness.

The role helps ensure people, vehicles, equipment and supplies are ready when and where they are needed. It is suited to volunteers who enjoy practical work, variety, teamwork and contributing to services that support the South Australian community.

In carrying out this role, the Operational Support Volunteer models St John SA’s values of Teamwork, Integrity, Respect, Diversity and a commitment to High-Quality Services. The role promotes safe work practices, respectful teamwork and reliable operational support.

This is an active, varied and genuinely useful role. One shift might involve preparing vehicles, restocking kits or picking and packing orders. Another might involve setting up an event, helping with deliveries, supporting patient transport operations or assisting with emergency management preparedness.

What you might be doing:

  • Moving, cleaning and preparing fleet vehicles
  • Supporting fleet servicing and operational readiness
  • Setting up and packing down events
  • Restocking kits and operational supplies
  • Picking, packing and delivering orders
  • Supporting HMS Operations, including patient transport services
  • Helping with emergency management preparedness
  • Completing general deliveries and keeping resources ready for use

When we need you

Preferred days are Tuesday to Thursday, with Monday and Friday also available. Shifts are available between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, with a minimum availability of 3 hours. Minimum commitment is one engagement per fortnight.

Our busiest period is September to December, so this is a great time to get involved. Lunch is provided.

Volunteers will need to provide their own steel cap boots.

What you need

  • You must hold a current car licence, P2 or above.
  • Warehouse experience, forklift licence, truck licence are all welcome, but not essential.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and medical equipment is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Manual handling experience.
  • Maintain a satisfactory National Police Certificate (NPC) and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Maintain Child Safe Environments training as per the policy.
