Himilo's Homework Club tutor

Himilo Community Connect aims to increase participation, building capacity, create valuable connections and open opportunities for success in education, employment, health and social cohesion from within the Somali Australian community. Homework Club supports the community’s needs and assists to implement and build positive learning habits and behaviours that students will be able to use in school and out of school. Majority of time, students will bring their own Homework where we would assist the students in understanding the concept of the work so that they are able to independently complete the work on their own. We will also provide some work (following guideline stipulated by Victorian Curriculum) for the students if they come without any homework. "I enjoyed my time attending the session as it made my day" - N (current volunteer) We work closely as a team where we support one another during the session. The relationship formed between the volunteer and child goes long way as these young people would remember who assisted them in their learning journey. The satisfaction in getting the student understand the basic concept of their work is priceless and worthwhile.Tutors are required to provide one and a half (minimum) of tutoring support per week over a 20-week program. Tutors act as an academic coach and positive role model to primary and secondary school aged students. They work with young people to develop their skills and understanding in Math, English, Science and Humanities.
