The Encircle Redcliffe Neighbourhood Centre receives regular donations of food from OzHarvest, FareShare, and other community organisations and individuals. The role of the Food Parcel Team is to:
- Help unload the OzHarvest delivery truck and receive any other community food donations.
- Sort the donations and prepare food parcels by matching the received food with the needs of the clients who are on the list to receive food for that day.
- Greet clients as they arrive and deliver their food parcel/s to their car or assist them to pack the food into carry bags if they are walking.
- Provide clients with other items (clothing, toiletry packs, etc.) if requested and if available.
- Secure donations that are not needed on that day and that can be used for future occasions.
- If sufficient food is available, prepare emergency food bags for clients who need food immediately and are not yet on the food parcel list (to be distributed by the Reception Team).
- Manage waste, including placing waste in the appropriate rubbish, recycling, cardboard-recycling or compost bins, and take the rubbish and recycling bins to the footpath for Council collection.
- Keep the area, including fridges, freezers, food cupboards, working tables and the storeroom clean and tidy.
A volunteer is needed to work with the existing Food Parcel Team to undertake as many of these roles as they are capable of conducting. Openings with this team don't come up often, so if you'd like to be a member of a great team while giving back to the community, please contact us today.
