MiCare is a community-based, not-for-profit organisation offering a range of services to improve the well-being of individuals, particularly vulnerable groups. They provide aged care, disability support, and community services, focusing on person-centred care. MiCare also assists newly arrived migrants and refugees, offering settlement support with housing, employment, and schoolwork, while providing culturally responsive aged care to elderly migrants, ensuring successful integration and academic achievement for all.

Position description:

The program aims to support newly arrived young people from refugee backgrounds with their schoolwork, as well as their basic literacy and numeracy skills. Each student will be paired with a tutor who excels in a particular subject or is eager to assist with their learning.

Locations:

  • Werribee Primary School - 2 Deutgam St, Werribee VIC 3030
  • Werribee Secondary College - 45 Duncans Rd, Werribee VIC 3030
  • Laverton College - 91 Bladin St, Laverton VIC 3028
  • Melton Central Community Centre - Start date TBC
  • Sunshine North - Start date TBC

Time required: 1.5 - 2 hours per week during school terms.

Commitment required:

  • 6 months - short term (1.5 - 2 hrs per weeks)
  • Academic year - 6 months plus ongoing commitment

Other requirements:

  • Covid-19 vaccination certificate including booster.
  • Flu vaccination.
  • National Police Check (paid for by MiCare).
  • Working with Children Check.
  • Two contactable referees.
