Cheeky Chook Crew Volunteer Coordinator
The Cheeky Chook Crew program is responsible for the daily care of the hens at Burnley Backyard. Each volunteer in the program has an allocated day/time in which they visit the hens, bring them food and help tidy up their area. The aim of the program is to provide a hands-on opportunity for children and adults alike to enjoy and learn from the care of chickens.
Main responsibilities and duties:
- To engage and consult with RNC staff to determine program specific aims and plan.
- To plan a working plan for the role that takes into account required tasks and communication needs.
- To undertake a regular weekly visit to the chooks to check up on the, the cleanliness of the area, and their supplies (straw/food).
- To manage the chook roster.
- Commuincation with chook crew members via email and on What’s App o Welcoming new members o Updates o Raising issues that need attention o Asking for covers o responding to inquiries
- To complete induction sessions for new volunteers on site o Tasks to be done o How to access the space o Communication requirements o Registration
- Coordination of working bees (twice a year) o Tidying up the space together o Adding things to the space (shelter from heat/rain) o Chance to meet fellow volunteers
