About Girls' Brigade Waverley

The Girls' Brigade is an international Christian youth organisation dedicated to helping girls become followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and through self control, reverence and a sense of responsibility to find true enrichment of life. Girls' Brigade Waverley runs on Tuesday evenings during the school term, and the program includes arts and crafts, cooking, games, team building, life skills, spiritual lessons, excursions, camps and leadership opportunities for older girls. We are currently seeking adult women to join our team as volunteer leaders and helpers for all age groups.

There are currently eight Girls' Brigade groups in Victoria, and many more in the rest of Australia and around the world, so if Tuesday evenings don't suit you, we invite you to learn more about other groups in Victoria via the Girls' Brigade Australia website.

About Unit Leaders

Girls in Girls' Brigade Australia are divided into four groups, or units:

  • Cadets (Prep to Year 2)
  • Juniors (Years 3-5)
  • Seniors (Years 6-8)
  • Pioneers (Years 9-11)

As a Unit Leader, you will work with another Unit Leader to use provided notes and materials to plan and deliver a weekly program for your unit of choice. Each week generally includes games, a craft or achievement activity and a devotion or Bible story. A year-long program consists of multiple achievements, each of which are on a theme such as friendship, cooking, hobbies, sharing, community, fitness, etc.

GB Waverley has vacancies in all units, so you can choose the age group you feel most comfortable leading. Note: We currently combine the Cadets and Juniors (subject to change) and do not run a Pioneers unit.

About You

  • Adult woman (over 18)
  • Enjoy working with children
  • Free on Tuesday evenings during the school term
  • Have a Working with Children Check

Regular (more than four times in a calendar year) Girls' Brigade leaders and assistants are also required to accept the Girls' Brigade Australia Code of Conduct, Aims and Principles and support the Girls' Brigade International Vision, as well as complete online training.

How to Volunteer

  • Express interest here by clicking the Apply button below, or by emailing Susannah Cosham (current Unit Leader at Waverley) at [email protected] directly for more information. Please tell us a bit about yourself and why you're interested in joining our team.
  • One of the current leaders from Girls' Brigade Waverley will then be in touch to discuss any questions you may have and arrange for you to visit on a typical night so you can see for yourself what the program and the girls and other leaders are like.

We look forward to hearing from you!
