Tree Planting Crew Leader
Reports to: Tree Planting Coordinator Time Commitment: Casual, one-off or multiple events **Location: **Harlaxton South, Toowoomba Region
Overview: Tree Planting Crew Leaders are the hands-on force behind the Greening Toowoomba project. This role involves managing a team of volunteers in planting trees, ensuring proper site preparation, and applying mulch and tree guards. Crew leaders will receive training prior to events and will ensure volunteers are following TRC safety and planting guidelines during events.
Key Responsibilities:
Logistics & Material Handling:
- Assist in transporting and distributing trees, stakes, guards, and mulch.
- Help set up and pack down tools, signage, and equipment.
Planting Execution:
- Dig appropriate-sized holes, plant trees correctly, and stake and guard them as per council and ecological guidelines.
- Ensure mulch is applied effectively to each tree for water retention and weed suppression.
Safety Training & Compliance:
- Attend safety briefings and use equipment appropriately.
- Report any hazards or injuries immediately.
Support & Community Interaction:
- Answer volunteer questions and encourage their involvement during the planting event.
- Lead a team and follow instructions from coordinators and council representatives.
Key Skills and Attributes:
- Basic fitness and ability to do manual labour
- Ability to follow instructions and communicate them to their team
- Experience in gardening, bush regeneration, or landscaping (desirable)
- Interest in environmental restoration and community work
