Food and Beverage Assistant (Thursday morning)

The Supervisor will assign roles to you each Thursday that you have signed up for a shift.
What might I be doing as a food and beverage assistant? Tasks include: greeting guests as they arrive; serving tea/coffee; making toast to order; making toasties in bulk; topping up self-serve items; clearing plates; and using our commercial dishwasher.
Do I need any special skills? No. You need to be friendly, respectful, and non-judgmental. Anything else we can teach on the job!
Do I have to work directly with the guests? Yes. You will be taking tea/coffee/toast orders from our guests at a kitchen window. Most guests will wait for their toast or drink to be ready. You will also have contact with guests as you clear plates and top up the self-serve items.
Do I need to wear specific clothes? You will need to wear closed shoes as you will be in a commercial kitchen. Sneakers are fine. You will be provided with an apron to wear over your clothes, gloves, hairnet (if you are making toasties), and a mask (if you choose to wear one).
Where are you located? In the hall of the Saint Andrews Uniting Church, cnr Ann and Creek Sts, in Brisbane City. Access is via glass doors on Creek St (where the Big Issue office operates from).
How are shifts rostered? We understand that life is busy and you will no doubt be juggling many, often competing, commitments! Once you have completed your trial shift and decided you would like to join the volunteer team, you will be provided with access to our electronic sign-up roster. You are free to sign up for the Thursdays that you are available, to enable you to volunteer around your other commitments.
