About the Don River Railway: The Don River Railway (DRR), operated by The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc., is a beloved heritage railway and a premier tourist attraction in Tasmania, dedicated to recreating living railway history. Our retail shop and ticket counter are the primary points of contact for our visitors, playing a crucial role in their overall experience and contributing directly to our financial sustainability.

The Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic and customer-focused Retail Attendants to join our front-of-house team. This is a vital role where your friendly demeanour and service skills will directly contribute to a positive visitor experience. You will be responsible for selling tickets, handling souvenir sales, and serving prepackaged food and drinks. If you enjoy interacting with the public, have a passion for heritage, and are keen to support a community-focused attraction, this is a highly rewarding opportunity.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Greet visitors warmly and assist with ticket sales for train rides and museum entry.
  • Process sales of souvenirs, gifts, and prepackaged food and beverages using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Handle cash and card transactions accurately.
  • Provide information to visitors about DRR's history, attractions, and operating schedule.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the retail shop and counter areas.
  • Restock shelves and merchandise as required.
  • Adhere strictly to all DRR policies, including cash handling, customer service, and safety guidelines.
  • Contribute to a positive and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors and volunteers.
