Be the Calm in Someone’s Storm – Volunteer Admin and Reception (Barwon Region)

Are you an all-rounder who thrives on organisation, connection, and purpose?

At Uniting’s Emergency Relief program in Norlane, our Admin and Reception volunteers are often the very first point of contact for people doing it tough. In moments of stress and uncertainty, your calm presence, practical support, and kindness can make all the difference.

This isn’t just admin — it’s people-first work with real impact.

What your day might look like:

• Welcoming community members with warmth, respect, and understanding

• Answering phones and coordinating appointment bookings

• Supporting intake and administrative processes using Microsoft systems

• Managing data entry, emails, and general office coordination

• Assisting with food relief and material aid support

• Helping create a safe, organised, and supportive environment for all

Why this role matters:

Every day, people walk through our doors facing real and immediate challenges — from putting food on the table to navigating unexpected life changes.

As the first point of contact, you help set the tone for their entire experience.

Your calm presence, organisation, and kindness don’t just support one person — they help stabilise families, strengthen community connections, and ensure people can access the support they need with dignity.

What might feel like a simple task to you — answering a phone, booking an appointment, offering a warm welcome — can be the moment someone feels seen, heard, and supported.

What makes you a great fit:

• Confident using Microsoft programs (Outlook, Excel, Word)

• Ability to actively listen and understand consumer needs

• Strong organisation skills with the ability to juggle competing tasks

• Calm, compassionate, and able to support people experiencing vulnerability or distress

• Great communication skills and a genuine people-first approach

• Flexible, reliable, and comfortable in a dynamic environment

• Bonus: multilingual skills are highly valued

Why join us:

• Be part of a supportive, inclusive team that values your contribution

• Build meaningful admin and community service experience

• Develop confidence working in human services and community support

• Make a direct and immediate difference in people’s lives
