Walking Group Volunteer
Advertised by South East VolunteersThe Track n Chat Walking Group enables people living with dementia and their support person to be active and socially connected within their communities, by giving them the opportunity to be part of a walking group supported by a team of Dementia Australia trained Volunteers. The Walking Group meets monthly and enjoys a 3 – 5km walk in a scenic, dementia friendly environment.
Our Walking Group Volunteers provide practical and social support to walk participants as outlined in your volunteer role orientation and description. Our volunteers are attentive and empathetic to all Walking Group participants, sensitively referring issues to the clients’ support person and the Volunteer Team Leader as appropriate.
Hours: 10am – 12.30pm on the 2nd Wednesday of the month
Length of Commitment Required: At least 12 months.
Qualifications/ Skills Required: • Enjoy meeting new people • Enjoy walking 3 – 5 kms • A warm, friendly and welcoming manner • Comfortable volunteering in a team environment and reaching out to supervisors as needed. • Experience supporting people living with dementia.
Training/Supervision provided: Volunteers complete our flexible online induction and role specific orientation. Supervision is provided whilst volunteering by our Volunteer Team Leaders and remotely by our Volunteer Coordinator
Volunteers need to step through national police (paid for by Dementia Australia) and reference checks.
The walks are held at a range of locations, generally in the City of Monash and Kingston. These locations may be difficult to access via public transport
