Coogee Maritime Trail Volunteer

Sustainability & Environment - City of Cockburn

Advertised by Cockburn Volunteer Centre

This summer, City of Cockburn has a team of volunteers helping to educate the community about the history of the Coogee Maritime Trail and Omeo shipwreck. If you have great interpersonal skills then we'd love for you to join us!

The Trail and shipwreck are home to all kinds of beautiful sea life, however, they are being damaged by climbing, touching, and misuse. Join our team of volunteers to protect the trail and answer questions.

Multiple shifts are available for 2-hour timeslots, 7 days a week, during peak hours of 7am-1pm.

Key Tasks

  • Be present at Omeo Park, Coogee Maritime Trail entrance for a 2-hour period each shift
  • Collect program equipment from storeroom and set up tear drop banners
  • Provide information about the history of the Coogee Maritime Trail and Omeo Shipwreck, responsible snorkelling and current management of the site
  • Keep an eye on the trail users periodically and look for visitors climbing or standing on the wreck or trail features
  • Use a megaphone to communicate positive snorkelling behaviour messages around the wreck
  • Follow Work Health and Safety practices reporting all incidents and near misses to Supervisors
  • Attend volunteer meetings and training as required
