Social Support Volunteer

St John SA Community Care delivers a service to our most vulnerable. We have flexible volunteer roles starting from just 2 – 3 hrs a week/fortnight and can accommodate those looking to complete their mutual obligation. You will make a difference, helping your client to remain independent and connected to their community this social connection is proven to aid them by additionally improving their physical wellness.

We require volunteers with valid South Australian drivers licence and registered motor vehicle to accompany the clients to their outings of choice, such as shopping, coffee break, visits to local libraries or community centres. You will help clients remain independent, improve wellbeing and social connections and support them to continue to be active contributors to their community.

Commitment

Regular - more than 6 months

Training

Comprehensive induction, orientation and ongoing training

Time required

A commitment of at least 2 -3hrs per week on any weekday. Full day options available. Visits and/ or Accompanied Outings are scheduled at a time that suits both volunteer and recipient.

Out of pocket costs including travel to and from volunteering

Please note: * As each organisation provides different levels/types of insurance, volunteers are reminded to check with the organisation as to the type of insurance provided for volunteers (e.g. Voluntary Workers Personal Accident Insurance). * Best practice volunteer involvement recommends that a volunteer role should not be more than 15-16 hours per week.
