Join South Australia’s most active wildlife rescue organisation as our General Manager – Wildlife Operations and help shape the systems and teams that support thousands of animals each year. This flexible, work-from-home volunteer role (approx. 15 hours per week) is perfect for someone who loves people as much as wildlife and thrives on bringing clarity, structure and calm to busy, mission-driven environments.

You’ll oversee all operational aspects of SOWFI’s rescue and rehabilitation services, including our 24/7 phone line, wildlife ambulance, rescuers, rehabilitators, training programs, box installation and our new wildlife finishing school. By supporting six dedicated Team Leaders, you’ll help ensure our practices remain consistent, safe and aligned with SOWFI standards and SA legislation.

Working closely with the General Manager – Corporate Services, you’ll strengthen communication across teams, improve processes, contribute data for monthly Board reporting and identify emerging risks or opportunities to boost outcomes for wildlife.

We’re looking for a compassionate, organised leader with experience in operational management (paid or volunteer). You’ll bring strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships, and confidence supporting volunteers. Experience in wildlife rescue or rehabilitation is ideal, but a willingness to learn SOWFI’s standards is equally valued. You should be comfortable analysing data, improving processes, and providing clear reports. Must live in South Australia, be confident working independently, and have a genuine passion for people, wildlife and animal welfare.

If you’re an empathetic, organised leader with experience in operations, people management or wildlife care—and you’re ready to make a meaningful difference—this role offers the chance to directly influence the quality of rescue and rehabilitation across South Australia. Your leadership will empower volunteers and improve the lives of native animals statewide.
