Hospital Chaplain (Volunteer)

Queensland Health

In recognition of the need for holistic health care, the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service welcome qualified Hospital Chaplains to join our Volunteer Program. Hospital Chaplains provide spiritual and emotional support to patients, families, and staff across all sites and throughout all stages of a patient's health journey. Our Hospital Chaplains are committed to providing emotional and spiritual support, that need not be religious.

Our team of Hospital Chaplains are rostered on an inpatient ward where they can build long lasting relationships with the clinical team. The team are welcomed into wards. They experience special moments, provide a listening ear, are non-judgemental and respect confidentiality.

Hospital Chaplains:

  • Are trained and certified as Hospital Chaplains.
  • Listen respectfully.
  • Do not judge or advise.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Are caring and empathic.
  • Support people in their suffering and dying.
  • Celebrate your joys.
  • Are Multi-faith.
  • Do not try to convert.
  • Recognise how important each person is.

If this role sounds like you and you have some experience as a Hospital Chaplain or chaplain in the community, please get in touch with Kathy [email protected] by 20/07/2026
